Unter diesem Motto wurde im Verlauf des letzten Jahres ein vergessen©Festival in St.Veit/Glan und im Funderwerk III in St.Donat entwickelt und geplant, das in seiner Dichte und seiner Besonderheit einen Höhepunkt innerhalb des Kunstprojekts vergessen© darstellt. Von Anfang an war es eine Herausforderung für die Neigungsgruppe vergessen© über einen längeren Zeitraum Projekte und Veranstaltungen zu und über das Vergessen in einer Stadt zu realisieren, die aufgrund ihrer Größe von 13.000 EinwohnerInnen die Möglichkeit bietet, wirklich eine Diskussion und einen Austausch in der Bevölkerung zu entfalten.

So wie das Thema und Phänomen "Vergessen" jede und jeden tagtäglich betrifft und sich interdisziplinär durch alle Wissensgebiete und Diskurse zieht, sind die einzelnen vergessen©Aktionen und Beiträge in St.Veit grenzüberschreitend angesiedelt. Vergessen© geht auf diese Weise über einen herkömmlichen Kunst- und Ausstellungsbetrieb hinaus und durchzieht vom 19. Juni bis 3. Juli 1998 unterschiedlichste ökonomische, soziale und kulturelle Räume und Alltagssituationen der Stadt.

Bereits im Februar 1998 wurde vergessen© im St.Veiter Gymnasium und an der HBLA in St.Veit von Susanne Luschin und Reinfried Gold vorgestellt. Die SchülerInnen wurden eingeladen, sich aktiv an vergessen© in Form eines Aufsatzwettbewerbs und eines Modewettbewerbs zum Thema "Alltagstracht" zu beteiligen.

Die große, offizielle Eröffnung von vergessen© findet am 19. Juni 1998 im Zentrum von St.Veit statt: am Hauptplatz werden vergessen©Song gespielt, die Wettbewerbe werden prämiert, regionale und internationale TheoretikerInnen stellen in Kurzreferaten verschiedene Aspekte von Vergessen vor, und die einzelnen vergessen©Projekte werden in einem Rundgang durch die Stadt präsentiert.

Zwei Wochen lang werden die Menschen, EinwohnerInnen, KünstlerInnen und TouristInnen, immer wieder in allen Winkeln der Stadt auf vergessen© stoßen, es gebrauchen, nutzen, konsumieren und neu in Umlauf bringen, sei es beispielsweise in Form der vergessen©Einkaufssackerln, des vergessen©Sonderstempels bei der Post, der vergessen©Litfaßsäule oder dem vergessen© Service.

Neben dem vergessen©Shop, in dem auch eine Materialiensammlung zum Thema "Vergessen", das vergessen©Zentralarchiv, zur Verfügung steht, wird es erstmalig auch ein vergessen©Café geben. Das vergessen©Café ist ein flexibler und offener Freiraum für Diskussionen und schnelle, spontane Interventionen. Darin gibt es auch einen Terminal mit WWW Zugang.

Am 3. Juli 1998 wird vergessen© seine Zelte in der Stadt St.Veit abbrechen und weiterziehen vor die Stadt in das Funderwerk III, wo die große vergessen©Nacht "Nirwana" mit einer Vielzahl an Performances, Projektionen und Installationen gefeiert wird.

Die lange Anlauf- und Vorbereitungsphase des Projekts, der Einsatz der Gemeinde St.Veit, und der Firma Funder für vergessen© haben es ermöglicht, daß bereits im Vorfeld eine Einbindung der Bevölkerung stattgefunden hat, sich Gespräche entwickelt haben über die vielschichtigen Bedeutungen des Phänomens "Vergessen", und das Projekt von der Kaufmannschaft und den EinwohnerInnen von St.Veit unterstützt wird.

"vergessen© kommt nach St.Veit" möchte in diesem Sinne für jeden und jede einzelne(n) eine Plattform schaffen, Vergessen in alltäglichen, politischen und gesellschaftlichen Situationen zu erkunden und zu testen.

In the course of 1997 a forgetting©Festival was developed using the phrase "vergessen/forgetting© is coming to St.Veit" as its motto. Within the artproject forgetting© this festival which is planned for the city of St.Veit and in the Funder Factory III in St.Donat will be an absolute highlight with regard to the exceptional concentration and the unusual features of this event. From the very beginning of the project, the "inclinationgroup" vergessen© worked on the challenge to realize a number of special events for a longer period of time in one particular city. St.Veit with its 13.000 inhabitants is an ideal location to initiate a discussion and establish a real exchange with the population.

Everybody is confronted with forgetting© as subject matter and as an overall phenomenon on an everyday basis. The theme is implicit in a variety of discourses and scientific fields. Thus the various forgetting©Activities and contributions in St.Veit will be genuinely interdisciplinary. Forgetting© exceeds the routines of artistic display and conventional exhibition activities. From June 19 until July 3 this artproject will permeate the most specified economical, social and cultural spaces of the city, as well as the realms of everyday experiences.

In February 1998 Susanne Luschin and Reinfried Gold presented forgetting© within the normal curriculum at a St.Veit high school: the students were invited to participate in a composition competition and at the HBLA students could participate in a fashion design competition using forgetting© as referential subject matter to develop a line of ”national costume for everyday use.

The official opening of forgetting© will take place on June 19 in the center of St.Veit: Forgetting©Songs will be performed at the Hauptplatz. The winners of the competitions will be decorated. Regional and international theoreticians will present the various aspects of the subject matter at hand in short topical statements. And then taking a guided tour, the participants of this opening will discover the parcours of the various forgetting©Projects publicly displayed in the city of St.Veit.

During the two weeks of the festival people of St.Veit inhabitants, tourists, artists will come upon unexpected forgetting©Interventions in the most unlikely corners and venues of the city. They will consume, use and circulate these interventions. There will be forgetting©Shopping bags, a special forgetting©Postal stamp, a forgetting©Kiosk and a special forgetting©Service.

There will be the forgetting©Shop, where one can also study the forgetting©Collection with various materials pertaining to the subject matter forgetting as well as the central archives of the forgetting©Project. For the first time there will be also a forgetting©Coffeeshop which will be a transparent location for discussions and also an open and flexible space for fast and spontaneous interactions. It is here where one can also find a terminal with internet access.

On July 3, 1998 forgetting© will move from St.Veit to the Funder Factory III in St.Donat nearby, where the big forgetting©Night "Nirwana" will be celebrated with all its multiple performances, projections and installations. Due to a long period of research and preparation and thanks to the cooperation of the community of St. Veit and the Funder company it was possible to involve the inhabitants of St.Veit already in the preparation phase of the project. There have been constant discussions and exchanges about the multilayered nature of the phenomenon, the inhabitants of St. Veit and the association of commerce were supporting the project and contributing to it.

"Vergessen/forgetting© is coming to St.Veit" thus wants to be a basis for everybody to explore and test the phenomenon of forgetting on an everyday level as well as in the broader context of political and social ramifications.
